Newspapers

View Our researchIT CT Tutorial

A digital resource for all major newspapers including:

The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Hartford Courant and Washington Post.

How can I find a specific newspaper article?
Click the publication you're interested in reading from the list of options on ResearchIT CT. You will need a valid library card number to read any publications provided by ProQuest. Once you've entered your library card number, you will be able to search through your designated publication. Many of the historic newspapers listed have been fully digitized in their original form. You can search them without a library card using keywords, date ranges, and other criteria.

Can you find fully reproduced newspapers?
Not with this resource! The best way to find articles you're looking for from major newspapers is to search the exact title of the article in quotes. You will then be able to read a pdf text-only version of the article you're looking for.

How current are the articles found in this database?
Generally, articles are available here about a week after they've been published. You will not be able to find that morning's news articles until the database company has been able to upload them.

What is the best way to use this resource?
We recommend using the advanced search feature to find specific topics or keywords during a specified date range. This will give you access to all of the publication's articles about those topics within that time period. You can search for articles containing your keywords in the last 7 days, last month, or in a specific date range that you can set up.

Do I need a Mystic & Noank Library card to access this resource?
No, you only need a library card from any library in Connecticut. ResearchIT CT is a resource offered through the Connecticut State Library.

Magazines

How can I look at a specific issue of a publication?
Click the publication you're interested in reading from the list of options. You will need a valid library card number to proceed. Once you've entered your library card number, you will see a list of issue years on the right column. Click the year, and the month, of the magazine you would like to read. The database will then provide you with a complete list of all the articles in that issue.

Will I be able to see the magazine as it's printed, or will I only be able to read the article text?
For most of these publications, you can see the full magazine layout as it's printed. This means pictures, captions, and ads are all preserved. You will have to read the articles one at a time, but you can also read the magazine in its entirety for free with just your library card!

Do I need a Mystic & Noank Library card to access this resource?
No, you only need a library card from any library in Connecticut. ResearchIT CT is a resource offered through the Connecticut State Library.
