The Mystic & Noank Seed Library
The Mystic and Noank Seed Library is a free community resource available during the months of March - September. We encourage both new and seasoned gardeners of all ages to try something new, learn something new, build healthier eating habits, and share your bounty!
We offer a variety of free vegetable, flower, and herb garden seeds. Seeds are donated by local businesses, commercial vendors and the UCONN Cooperative Extension. We cannot accept seeds from patrons personally harvested due to state restrictions under Connecticut’s Seed Law; however, donations of unopened commercial seed packets are always appreciated.
Using the Seed Library
You can find the seed library, fashioned out of one of our old card catalogs, in front of the circulation desk. Peruse the seed library display drawers and decide what you would like to grow. Take only one packet of seeds from each category and enjoy planting your new seeds! You may take seeds once a month from the library.
If you're ready to start planting be sure to check out this seed longevity chart!
Service-Minded Community Outreach
A major component of our seed library is community outreach. We invite those who use our seed library to join us! We participate in Plant a Row for the Hungry in which individuals plant an extra row of vegetables and then donate the produce to the local food pantry Gemma E.Moran United Way in New London, CT.
For flower gardeners, we offer The Growing Kindness Project in which patrons grow, cut and give away flowers to brighten the day of others.
Ask us about how you can get involved!
